Rubidium is a chemical element. Its atomic number is 37 and it is denoted by the symbol Rb. It is a silvery-white soft metallic element of the group of alkali metals.

It was discovered by Robert Wilhelm Eberhard Bunsen, a German chemist and Gustav Robert Kirchhoff, a German physicist. They discovered it in 1861 by the new concept of flame spectroscopy.
