SN 2005ap was a massive lustrous type II supernova located in the Coma Berenices Constellation. It is approximately 4.7 billion light years away from the planet Earth. It was discovered by American astronomer, Robert Quimby. He made this discovery on March 3rd, 2005 at McDonald observatory in Texas (US).
