Potassium is a soft metal which reacts very quickly with water. It was not known to the ancient civilizations and the credit for its isolation and discovery goes to Sir Humphry Davy from England in 1807. Potassium was also the first metal which was discovered by using the process of electrolysis. Davy obtained potassium from potassium hydroxide through the process of electrolysis.
