Pegasus is one of the 88 modern constellations and it also figures among the 48 constellations listed by Greek astronomer Claudius Ptolemy. Before him, the ancient civilizations like the Greeks and the Babylonians had their own interpretations of the constellation. It was Ptolemy who gave a name to these groups of stars. Pegasus means a beautiful winged horse in the Greek mythology.
