Strontium is a chemical element. It is represented by chemical symbol Sr and its atomic number is 38. It is a soft grey, silvery alkaline earth metal. It was discovered by a chemist and physician, Adair Crawford. He identified it as a separate element from Barium in 1790. Later in 1798, it was separated into its pure form by Scottish physician and chemist, Thomas Charles Hope.
