Ernest William Goodpasture is credited with the discovery of mumps in the year 1934. An American pathologist, Goodpasture identified the common symptom of the disease as swollen salivary glands which can be very painful. In teenage and adult males, it can even cause infertility.

Even after the introduction of the vaccine for the eradication of this disease, a lot of people are still being afflicted by it. The symptoms are very visible, physically; a number of tests are also available for the diagnosis of this disease. It is an infectious disease which can spread though sharing food and drinks and kissing. There is no proper treatment for the painful condition; applying ice on the neck can provide some relief.
