Isotopes are alternatives of atoms of a specific chemical element which have distinct numbers of neutrons. They were discovered in 1913 by British physicist, Sir Joseph John “J. J.” Thomson and Francis William Aston, a British chemist. Margaret Todd, a Scottish writer promoted a term isotope. Sir Joseph John won the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1906 and Francis William Aston won the Nobel Prize in 1922 for Chemistry.
