Copper is a metal which was known to people even during the pre historic times. Due to this reason we cannot say who discovered copper but evidence found by archaeologists propose that people living between the 5000 BC and 1200 BC may have discovered the metal. It was used by the ancients for making utensils, jewelery and weapons. Some historians consider that Romans were the first to use the metal on a large scale, some 11,000 years ago. Historians have also found evidence that copper was used in ancient India for making coins, lamps, idols and utensils.
