Cobalt is a chemical element. Its chemical symbol is Co and its atomic number is 27.  It is a hard, radiant, silver-gray metal found naturally only in chemically combined form. It was discovered in 1735 by Georg Brandt, a Swedish chemist and mineralogist. In 1938, Glenn Seaborg and John Living good discovered cobalt-60 (a synthetic radioactive isotope of cobalt).
