It was discovered by Willem Janszoon, a Dutch navigator, Captain James Cook, a British explorer and Dirk Hartog, a Dutch explorer. Willem became the first European to reach on Australia’s shores in 1606, James was the first European to reach at the eastern coastline of Australia and Dirk Hartog’s expedition reached the western coast of Australia in 1616
