Amylocaine is considered the first synthetic local anesthetic. It was mostly used in spinal anesthesia. It was patented and synthesized in 1903 by French medicinal chemist, Ernest Fourneau. He synthesizes it while working at the Pasteur Institute in France. He played a major role for the discovery of synthetic local anesthetics.
